Feds Order Shutdown Of D.C. Tour Bus Company
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The U.S. Department of Transportation has ordered a Washington tour bus company to shut down after an investigation found that its vehicles and drivers are unsafe.
The department announced Wednesday that it has ordered Washington DC Party Shuttle to cease all operations immediately. The company also does business as Onboard DC Tours. It operates in the Washington area and in New York.
The investigation was conducted by the department's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and comes amid a crackdown on passenger carriers. The department says it found lax drug and alcohol testing for drivers and inadequate maintenance of vehicles.
Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says the department is following through on its promise "to get unsafe bus companies off the road."
A message left with the firm was not immediately returned.
