Feds: Chinatown Bus Service Ignored Shutdown Order
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Federal transportation officials have obtained a restraining order against a charter bus company that serves New York City's Chinatown.
The Department of Transportation says Double Happyness Inc. continues to operate in defiance of a shutdown prompted by serious safety problems.
The agency says a federal court in Philadelphia issued the restraining order because the company is still selling tickets and transporting passengers.
The government shut down Double Happyness last month after deeming it "an imminent hazard." Regulators found violations of rules governing hours of service, vehicle maintenance and drug testing.
Double Happyness runs buses from Albany, N.Y., Baltimore and Wilmington, Del., to New York City. A call to the company's Philadelphia-area headquarters rang unanswered Thursday.
