Federalsburg Mayor Robbed Of Cell Phone
FEDERALSBURG, Md. (AP) -- The mayor of Federalsburg says he was robbed of his cell phone after he gave a man a ride in his pickup truck.
The robbery occurred Tuesday afternoon. Mayor Bill Beall tells The Star Democrat of Easton that the man asked him for a ride to the Federalsburg marina. Beall says it was raining and the man had "the best smile," so he agreed to take him.
Beall says the man asked to borrow his cell phone. He says the man pretended to call a friend and then stepped out of the truck. The man stuck his hand under his shirt, implied he had a handgun and demanded Beall's wallet.
Beall accelerated and made a U-turn, hitting the man with the open passenger side door.
Federalsburg police are investigating.
