FBI: Md. Grad & NYC Cop Arrested After Planning To Kidnap, Rape, Cook & Eat Women
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—There are new details in the case of the University of Maryland graduate turned New York City cop that's accused of plotting to kidnap, cook and then eat women.
Monique Griego has the latest on the investigation.
The two brothers and mother of Gilberto Valle were stunned after learning that the 28-year-old, who is an NYPD cop and the father of a one-year old, may have been plotting to kidnap, kill, cook, and then eat at least two women--all while keeping a detailed database of a hundred others.
"It sounds like a movie, not anything real," said a neighbor.
One of Valle's potential victims lives in Maryland.
Valle himself is a 2006 graduate of the University of Maryland.
His father was wearing a Maryland shirt when asked about the allegations.
"Of course I'm shocked. It is possible. I don't think so. Nope! There's never been any discussion about cannibalism. Never," he said.
The FBI uncovered the alleged plot through emails and chat rooms Valle was using.
According to charging documents, Valle discussed kidnapping a woman with a co-conspirator who asks "how big is your oven?"
"Big enough to fit one of these girls if I folded their legs," Valle replied.
He then goes on to say he wanted to "cook her over a low heat, keep her alive as long as possible."
Forensic psychologist Dr. N.G. Berrill wonders how true Valle's posts really were.
"Typically the individuals that I've encountered who have actually engaged in serial murders or engaged in cannibalism don't really write about it," Dr. Berrill said.
However, investigators believe he was ready to act. They say in June he met with a potential victim but nothing happened. And that he had a clear plan for a second victim, telling a co conspirator "this is very risky and will ruin my life if I am caught."
Valle is charged with conspiring to kidnap.
He has since been suspended from the New York City Police Department.
Officer Valle passed the psych test for the NYPD and has no history of violence. His attorney says this alleged plot is all just one big twisted fantasy.
