FBI Looking For 'Violent' Armed Robber In 2 Baltimore Royal Farms Shootings
BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Federal authorities take the lead hunting for a dangerous criminal responsible for shootings during two convenience store robberies in Baltimore.
Derek Valcourt has more on why the FBI is now involved.
A lot of times, robbers just point a gun and demand money. But this robber is actually pulling the trigger. The FBI is labeling him violent.
Security camera footage shows the suspect the FBI calls dangerous.
Last Tuesday at 4 a.m., he gave a clerk inside the Hampden Royal Farms the scare of a lifetime. In the video, he pulled out a silver handgun and pointed it at the cashier. That's when the suspect went behind the counter. Police say he fired a single shot and then made off with cash from the register.
"We're asking everyone to please look at this video," Det. Jeremy Silbert of the Baltimore City Police Department said.
Police believe that robber was also one of two suspects last seen in late February robbing another Royal Farms store at Harford Road and Echodale.
But in that case, the FBI says the same suspect shot a customer in the chest-- an innocent bystander who was reaching for his wallet.
That customer survived but others were left shaken.
"There's always people here so you would think that kind of thing wouldn't happen," said a customer.
Police say the two robbers made off with cash and cigarettes. But the FBI says it considers one of those men violent. He's believed to be in the range of 35 years old, about 5'7" inches tall and 200 pounds, wearing a black coat with a hood.
Police and the FBI are offering $2,500 for information that helps crack the case and leads to the arrest of the suspect.
Anyone with information in the case is urged to call the FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force at (410) 265-8080.
