FBI Investigated Threats Against Former Ravens Owner Art Modell
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The FBI investigated two threats against the late Baltimore Ravens owner Art Modell, but neither resulted in charges being filed.
The FBI released Modell's file on Wednesday.
The more recent threat involved former Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis, who faced murder charges in connection with the stabbing deaths of two men after a Super Bowl party in Atlanta in 2000, before pleading guilty to misdemeanor obstruction of justice. Modell testified on Lewis' behalf at a bail review hearing. Afterward, the file shows Modell received two postcards that used racist and profane language and threatened his life.
A third postcard was addressed to a Ravens player, but the FBI did not release the player's name. The FBI did fingerprint analysis but didn't find a match.
The FBI investigated an attempt to extort Modell in 1975, when he owned the Cleveland Browns.
