Teen Killed In Car Accident On Mountain Road In Pasadena
PASADENA, Md. (WJZ)-- Tragedy on an Anne Arundel County road after a car accident killed a teenage girl early Wednesday morning.
Derek Valcourt has more.
It happened along a stretch of Mountain Road all too familiar with car accidents. Some of them are minor but some are deadly.
The father of 17-year-old Kala Austin was overcome with grief at the site of his daughter's deadly car accident along Mountain Road in Pasadena. It was just after 7:30 a.m. when workers nearby first heard something wrong.
"We heard a bang and then we saw that the car was there," said Zaheer Khan, who works nearby.
Surveillance cameras at a nearby business captured the entire incident. Police say Austin was driving her car eastbound on Mountain Road when she lost control, crossed over into westbound traffic and ultimately slammed into an abandoned house, leaving a hole in the wall.
"She slid in front of five or six cars. We saw it on our cameras in the building. Nobody stopped to help that girl," said someone who worked nearby.
Austin was rushed by ambulance to Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Austin was a student at Chesapeake High School.
"Kala was a genuinely kind soul. She was considerate of others and showed great empathy toward all people. She was a hard-working, motivated student, and wanted to please her teachers. Kala's smile could bring joy to anyone." said Jennifer Bender, Advanced Placement psychology teacher.
"Kala will be remembered for her kindness, her smile, and her way with words. The thing I admired most about her was her mental toughness as well as her desire to do things well. She really took pride in doing her work well," said Michele Harmon Malone, English Department Chair.
Police are now investigating whether speed and wet roads may have played a factor in the crash. Neighbors call the stretch of road where she died dangerous, one of the worst in terms of accidents.
No one else was injured in the crash.
