2 Teens Killed In Crash On I-695; Driver Was Wanted By Police
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- One was a graduate of Franklin High School, the other was still a student there.
Police believe alcohol and speed may have played a role in an early morning crash that caused two teens in the backseat of a car to be ejected and killed. Police have arrested one of the passengers in the car who police say ran away from the scene. They say the two people riding up front in the car have been playing a blame game when they were asked who was driving.
WJZ obtained cell phone video of the deadly crash just after 1:15 a.m. that shut down the outer loop of 695 at Providence Road for several hours Thursday.
Maryland State Police said a 2000 Honda Accord struck the right shoulder guardrail and eventually came to a rest in the center lane.
One of the backseat passengers, identified as 18-year-old Matthias Listwan, died at the scene.
Hannah Goodman, 15, was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Goodman was a Franklin High School student and Listwan was a graduate.
State police said 18-year-old Neiko Ali Reese Staton, who was also in the car, fled the scene after the crash. He was wanted on an unrelated outstanding warrant and is being held in police custody.
"He was actually found to be on an outstanding warrant and was transported to the hospital," said Elena Russo with the Maryland State Police.
The other front seat passenger, a 17-year-old from Taneytown, has not yet been identified and police said they don't know which of the two were driving.
"He was actually found to be on an outstanding warrant and was transported to the hospital. He was released and now is awaiting before a court commissioner," said Elena Russo with Maryland State Police. "The other front seat passenger who remained with the crash was telling police that the young man who fled was the driver and the one who fled said the one the scene was driving."
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call police.
According to a funeral home website, a funeral will be held for Goodman on Sunday, Aug. 5 at Levinson Chapel in Reisterstown, Md.
