Fan Expectation Is High For The Orioles
SARASOTA, Fla. (WJZ) -- Before you know it, there will be plenty of traffic around Orioles Park at Camden Yards. Expectations will be high for the Birds, the defending American League East champs.
After 14 straight losing seasons, the Orioles are on a winning streak. With better players, better management and a new attitude, they now expect to win---and those who have played for a the team a while now know how low those expectations once were.
"I think I was kind of tired of people telling me `Oh, you play for the Orioles? You guys aren't very good,'" said Zach Britton.
Britton's been in the Orioles organization continuously longer than anyone else on the team and he's seen the culture change.
"We know we're a good team. We don't need anyone else to tell us that we're not. We know that we are, " he said.
"You see how the hard work pays off in the end," said Matt Wieters. "Now, you know what's expected and everyone holds each other accountable in that locker room."
Three straight winning seasons including a Division title, but baseball experts predict the O's streak of success will end this season and the O's embrace the role of underdog.
With a chip on their shoulder and a division championship on their resume, the O's, once again, will seek to prove the prognosticators wrong.
