Family Of Woman Fatally Beaten Speaks Out
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Police are on the hunt for a killer after a woman is found murdered inside her Northeast Baltimore home.
Monique Griego spoke with the victim's family about the case.
Inside a quiet house in the 900-block of E. 41st Street is where police say someone beat and killed 43-year-old Sherry Montgomery-Cantey.
"The last 20 hours been rough for me because I love my wife," said Alex Cantey.
Alex Cantey was at work when his stepson and a friend found his wife's body just after 5 p.m. Monday.
The brutal way she was killed has hit the family hard.
"About 50,000 things go through your mind at once. Just a bundle of nerves," said George Montgomery, victim's father.
Sherry Cantey's father told us his daughter had no enemies.
"To my knowledge, no," he said.
Investigators say there were no signs of forced entry, and the house even had an alarm system. But there was one thing that stood out. Police say Sherry Montgomery-Cantey was running a small shop out of her home, where she would sell candy and DVDs.
"We believe it was open to pretty much anyone in the neighborhood," said Kevin Brown, Baltimore City Police.
Police are hoping neighbors might have seen something like a possible suspect leave the house.
"If they were acting out of the ordinary, perhaps seemed hurried or nervous to please contact homicide detectives," Brown said.
"Had I heard anything that would have been the first thing to call somebody," said Esther Dutton, next door neighbor.
Dutton was Sherry Cantey's friend and next door neighbor.
"We thought a lot of her, and it hurt my heart that she's gone," Dutton said.
As the family tries to deal with their loss they have a message for whoever took their loved one away.
"If he's out there looking, if you're looking at this broadcast, turn yourself in," Alex Cantey said. "God is in your hands. They will catch you."
Police are looking at robbery as a possible motive.
