Family Of Pasadena Teen Killed In Hit-And-Run Increases Reward To $11,000
PASADENA, Md. (WJZ)— Family and friends have upped the reward money as they try to find the hit and run driver who killed a 15-year-old in Anne Arundel County back in April.
Derek Valcourt spoke with the teen's heartbroken father--still searching for justice.
He's so frustrated, he's now putting up $5,000 of his own money in an effort to catch his son's killer.
Mike Marion carries some of his son's ashes in a small vial around his neck.
"It hurts every day. It's been three months tomorrow," he said.
Skylar Marion was just 15-years-old when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver as he walked down busy Mountain Road in Pasadena, heading to a convenience store.
The driver sped away from the scene. Skylar died in the hospital days later.
"He wasn't ready to go. He was 15-years-old. He had his whole life ahead of him," Marion said.
Investigators believe the vehicle involved was a 1997-2002 dark color Ford Expedition, which would have had damage to the hood. the passenger side headlight and front corner panel.
Anne Arundel County Police say they've received a lot of tips in this case, but so far none of them have panned out.
"We believe somebody out there has information. They know something that could certainly help us in this case. And we're asking them to come forward," said Justin Mulcahy, Anne Arundel County Police.
Upon his death, Skylar's heart was donated to one of his Pasadena peers, 15-year-old Kyle Wilkerson, whose own failing heart left him anxiously awaiting a transplant.
"Knowing that I have this heart, he still lives on," Wilkerson said.
But that is small consolation for Skylar's dad. He's built a private memorial in his yard, spent countless hours hanging posters and flyers seeking information and just sold one of his own cars to raise money for the reward fund.
"I can definitely use the money. But I think this is, right now, more important. To find out who did this to Skylar," said Marion.
The effort to raise more reward money isn't over. It continues with a benefit spaghetti dinner this Saturday at Annapolis Moose Lodge 296 on Crownsville Road.
