Facebook Is Giving Ticketmaster Some Competition
BALTIMORE (WJZ)--It gave us the term "friending" people. Now Facebook is giving Ticketmaster some competition. One of the first businesses to use a new feature on the site is here in Baltimore.
Kai Jackson explains how Facebook is taking over ticket sales.
Using social networking sits is a real game changer.
They lined up at the door, showed their tickets to staff, and then got stamps to prove they paid. The star attraction Friday night was an eclectic band called Reel Big Fish.
Facebook is also a star as far as Ram's Head Live is concerned. That's because on Friday night, the popular concert venue started selling tickets through its Facebook page.
When asked if selling tickets on Facebook is appealing, one consumer said: "It does if they don't have a fee," said Matt Lutheran of Stratford, Conn. "It all matters what the fee is. Ticketmaster gets their money. I think Facebook would want to get their money."
"Marketing online is a constantly and rapidly evolving landscape," said Sarah Sample, Ram's Head Live marketing director. "And if you don't keep up with what's popular, especially in the music industry, you know you're going to fall behind."
The fact that Ram's Head is utilizing Facebook, not just as a friend page, but as a tool to sell their product, shows the power of social networking.
Is it a bad idea to sell tickets on Facebook?
"No, not at all because that's where the majority of the people are at right now, so give or take if it's good or bad," said Carly Kaczor of Caroline County.
Rams Head says Facebook isn't actually selling the tickets online but is acting as a link. Call it, one stop shop.
"It's an application for Facebook that streamlines all of our selling information into that application and makes it accessible on Facebook," Sample said.
"I think it's pretty cool actually," said Tony Scardina of Glen Burnie. "Anyway to get tickets out and promote yourself is cool."
Rams Head Live says it plants to push sales of its tickets through its Facebook page for black Friday.
Rams Head says costumers can still purchase tickets through the Rams Head live website and outlets like Ticketmaster.
