Extra Security At 5 Harford County Schools After Threat
BEL AIR, Md. (WJZ) -- For the second time in a week, a threat was made against a Harford County high school. Now parents are on edge. Monique Griego has more on the investigation.
Both of the threats turned out to be unfounded but the sheriff's office is still taking them very seriously.
Tight security and an increased police presence at C. Milton Wright High School in Harford County after school leaders are tipped off to a possible threat.
"I just heard it on Facebook and everything that there was going to be a bomb threat," said Carie Deangelo.
"That the school was going to blow up and some scary stuff," said one parent.
District leaders said a student found a note in the bathroom stating a bomb was going to blow up at the school at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
"You want to yank your kids out of school and make sure they're safe," said a parent.
The note also listed four other area schools but made no direct threats toward them. At the end, no bomb went off or was found.
"The threat was immediately investigated by law enforcement and our safety and security coordinator and it was found to be not credible. However, we have to take all threats very seriously and put precautions in place," said Teri Kranefeld, Harford County schools.
The Harford County Sheriff's Office did deploy extra officers and bomb-sniffing dogs to C. Milton.
"During the day, if we had to use the bathroom in first or second period, we had to get escorted through the school by cops," said Shawn Wierzbowski.
"Stuff like this, you never really know and we worked to provide a heightened level of security," said Captain Jim Eyler.
Parents say they're happy the threat was taken seriously.
"I definitely think you have to take it seriously because you know what, what if it hadn't been a prank and your kid got blown up at the school?" said a parent.
The sheriff's office is asking anyone with any information on this case to call them.
Police say when the suspect is caught, they will face charges.
