Crews Respond To Explosion At Baltimore Co. Apartment Complex
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Baltimore County crews responded to an explosion at a Randallstown apartment complex that temporarily evacuated residents for about two hours Wednesday morning.
Officials say the explosion occurred in the 3400 block of Carriage Hall on the second floor of the Carriage Hill Circle Apartments.
"Sounded how it looked, a mini explosion. Wasn't too bad, but you can tell it was out of the norm," Melvin, a nearby neighbor said.
First responders say the building was evacuated and crews monitored the building for gas as they waited for BGE crews to arrive.
"We're looking at natural gas as one possibility the source of the explosion although we haven't been able to confirm just yet," said Captain Tim Rostkowski of Baltimore County Fire. "We've monitored the air to make sure that stuff looks OK in the adjoining apartments and so far the only building we are concerned with is where the explosion happened."
Building engineers say there is no structural damage from the blast. The complex holds nearly 800 residents.
"Makes you feel uneasy because you don't know what caused the problem -- at least not yet. So I'm hoping it's not a major issue to cause the complex to do the same," Melvin said.
About 100 residents were temporarily evacuated and residents in one unit have been temporarily displaced and are getting assistance with shelter, according to officials.
No injuries have been reported.
