Ex-D.C. Council Chair Sentenced To 1 Day In Custody
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Former D.C. Council Chairman Kwame Brown has been sentenced to one day in custody and six months in home detention for lying on loan applications.
A federal judge Tuesday ordered Brown to spend the remainder of the day in the custody of the U.S. Marshals. He was also given two years of supervised release and community service.
He's due in D.C. Superior Court later in Tuesday for sentencing on a misdemeanor campaign finance violation.
Brown admitted to both crimes in June and gave up his council seat as part of a plea deal.
Prosecutors asked that Brown, who admitted inflating his income by tens of thousands of dollars on loan applications, be sentenced to six days in jail for fraud.
But his lawyer argued he'd suffered enough and requested probation.
