Ex-Airman Sentenced In Gang-Related Beating Death
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A former airman has been sentenced to 22 years in prison in the gang-related beating death of an Army sergeant in Germany in 2005.
Rico Williams, 34, was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court in Washington. He had been convicted in November 2010 of second-degree murder in the death of 25-year-old Sgt. Juwan Johnson, a Baltimore native.
According to court documents, Williams was the leader of a gang in Ramstein, Germany. Williams and others gathered near Ramstein Air Base on July 3, 2005 and fatally beat and kicked Johnson during a gang initiation ceremony.
Williams is the sixth person to be convicted in the slaying.
