Electric Coop To Offer Energy Management Program
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Old Dominion Electric Cooperative will offer a pilot program to 11 member distribution cooperatives aimed at better managing fluctuations in wholesale supply and lowering utility costs.
ODEC will offer the program starting next year in Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. The arrangement with Baltimore-based Constellation Energy will use an online energy management platform that loads information and control portfolio costs in real time.
ODEC says the program can determine optimal periods for peak load reduction and identify commercial and industrial customers eligible to reduce load during those times. To encourage participation, customers will have the opportunity to earn an incentive payment for reducing energy use.
ODEC President and CEO Jackson E. Reasor says the program is part of the cooperative's goal to provide reliable, affordable and environmentally responsible electricity.
