Eldersburg Man Convicted In Fatal Shooting Outside Tavern
WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- A man who opened fire at a crowd of people standing outside an Eldersburg tavern, killing one, has been convicted of first-degree murder.
A Carroll County Circuit Court jury also convicted Jacob Bircher, 25, of Westminster of 13 other crimes on Friday.
Bircher was convicted of killing David J. Garrett, 36, of Sykesville on July 31, 2012 outside the Harvest Inn.
The Carroll County Times reports that his lawyer had argued that Bircher suffered from PTSD and other mental health disorders and believed he was in danger the night of the shooting.
Sentencing is set for Jan. 7.
