Westbound I-68 Reopens In Western Maryland
OAKLAND, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland State Highway Administration says westbound lanes of Interstate 68 in far western Maryland have reopened after a 40-mile stretch was closed due to snow-related problems.
The westbound lanes reopened shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday. Those lanes were closed for about 11 hours overnight and into the morning.
So far, 20 inches of snow have fallen in the area since Monday afternoon.
The westbound interstate closure stretched from the West Virginia state line to LaVale. LaVale is about 150 miles west of Baltimore. Westbound U.S. 40 also is open west of Frostburg.
Crews were working to remove several tractor-trailers stuck on the highway. Four to five passenger vehicles also were abandoned in the median.
