Dundalk Unveils Annual Train Garden
DUNDALK, Md. (WJZ) -- We may tend to forget that Baltimore is a city of traditions. One overlooked in many parts of the country is the holiday train garden. As Mike Schuh reports, Dundalk's train garden is getting bigger every year.
Eleven years ago, it started with a single train on a card table.
"They keep adding more and more," said Henry Crane.
Now, volunteers are putting the final touches on the biggest yet.
"Very elaborate," said Jackie Enman.
There are nine trains and 100 moving displays.
"As you can see, we are at about our maximum space," said Harry Young, Dundalk Historic Society.
Even more amazing is that this entire set is stored in the attic and it comes out box by box from a little hole. Best of all, their efforts are appreciated by all ages.
"We are kid-friendly. It's built on four levels so you can always see a train at eye-level," Young said.
"It's fantastic. If you love trains in any shape or form, you've got to go see it," Enman said.
Even a former county police chief has seen one display and questioned why all his cars were parked outside the donut shop.
They open Saturday and run every day except for Christmas, from noon until 8 p.m. They're located across from the post office in the heart of Dundalk.
