Driver Sentenced In Crash That Killed Pedestrian
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Prosecutors say a woman who drove into a group of people in Adams Morgan, killing one and injuring another, has been sentenced to 40 months in prison.
Chamica Adams, 24, of Mitchellville, Md., was also ordered at Monday's sentencing to perform 500 hours of community service for a project to be chosen by the victim's family.
Adams pleaded guilty in March to involuntary manslaughter in the death Julia Bachleitner, 26, of Austria. Bachleitner died six days after the crash on Sept. 8.
According to the government's evidence, Adams had been drinking at a club before she drove onto a traffic island, striking Bachleitner and another woman.
