Driver Killed When Car Hits School Bus
SCOTLAND, Md. (AP) -- The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office says a man was killed when he lost control of his car and hit a school bus.
It happened about 8 a.m. Friday on Point Lookout Road in Scotland. Deputies say Dennis Gingles, 46, of Lexington Park was traveling south when he illegally passed two vehicles on the shoulder.
Authorities say Gingles lost control of his car and overcorrected, causing the vehicle to spin sideways. Deputies say the car entered the northbound lane and hit a school bus operated by Sandra Marie Adkins, 44, of Lexington Park.
Police say Gingles, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. Authorities say he died at a local hospital.
No one on the school bus was injured.
