Driver Killed After Car Strikes Power Pole

BARNESVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County police say a car has struck a power pole and caught fire in Barnesville, killing the vehicle's driver.

Police say they were called the 23500-block of Mt. Ephraim Road for a car accident about 9:15 p.m. Sunday. Police say the car was traveling northbound when it slid off the roadway and struck the pole. Authorities say wires fell from the pole, causing the fire.

Police say the driver was ejected from the vehicle during the collision, and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver has not been identified.

Authorities are investigating the accident.
