DPW Says Repairs To Close East Monument Street Sinkholes Open Another Nearby
BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Repairs to close two sinkholes on East Monument Street have now opened another sinkhole a half a block away.
Capt. Jeff Long has more.
The Baltimore Department of Public Works (DPW) says the vibrations from heavy machinery being used to close the sinkholes in the 2300-block of East Monument Street between Patterson Park and Milton avenues has caused the opening of the third sinkhole on Thursday.
The DPW says the opening of the latest sinkhole has slowed operations to install a metal containment sleeve to close the existing ones.
The new sinkhole had earlier caused a gas leak and that gas line has now been capped.
The first sinkhole opened in late July, but later doubled in size due to heavy rains in late August.
