DPW Reports Water Main Break Inside Monument Street Sinkhole
BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- The Baltimore Department of Public Works (DPW) announced on Friday that there was a water main break inside the sinkhole that has closed Monument Street between Bradford and Montford streets.
DPW said the water went through the storm tunnel underneath the sinkhole and has not caused flooding onto the street above. However, the break has increased the chances that the sides of the sinkhole would collapse.
DPW said it is working with Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) and other Baltimore City agencies to fix the sinkhole but adds that there are concerns of other sinkholes under the roadway.
