Downtown Frederick Fire Displaces Residents

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The residents of two apartments have been displaced after a fire damaged their building in downtown Frederick.

The Frederick News-Post reports Frederick County firefighters were called to the scene Saturday evening on Water Street. Smoke was coming from the first and second floors of the building when they arrived.

Spokesman Doug Brown says 38 firefighters brought the blaze under control in about 20 minutes. No injuries were reported.

The American Red Cross is assisting the residents who were displaced by the fire. Damage has been estimated initially at $25,000.
