Domestic Dispute Leads To Stabbing At High School Football Game
CENTREVILLE, Md. (WJZ) -- A father attending his son's football game is now facing attempted murder charges for stabbing a man.
It all happened under the Friday night lights at Queen Anne's County High School's game against Elkton.
"She called me on the phone, she's like, 'Mom, you're not going to believe somebody was stabbed.' She was scared, she was nervous," one parent said.
Sheriff's deputies tell WJZ 50-year-old Rodney Wesson, of Elkton, was arguing with his estranged wife behind the visitor's bleachers. Her friend -- 39-year-old Eugene King -- tried to intervene.
That's when police say Wesson stabbed King in the chest, causing him to be flown to Shock Trauma.
Meanwhile, the game didn't miss a play.
"It wasn't until ambulances and the helicopter came that most people knew something had occurred," said Dale Patrick, Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office.
The Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office said social media was buzzing with rumors that the fight had started over politics -- but that was not the case.
Wesson has had trouble before. Earlier this year, a protective order was placed against him for alleged domestic violence.
He now faces attempted second-degree murder, assault and other charges.
"Parents? That makes no sense at all, really. Not here!" one man said.
King is expected to be OK, and could be released from the hospital this weekend.
Wesson is being held at the Queen Anne's County Detention Center without bail.
