DNA Helps Link Md. Man To Sex Assaults
CHILLUM, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County Police say DNA evidence helped link a Silver Spring man arrested after an attempted robbery to two sexual assaults earlier that day.
Police announced Monday that they are charging Emerito Chicas-Savala, 33, in two sex assaults and robberies at gunpoint in Chillum on Oct. 29.
Hours later, Montgomery County police arrested Chicas-Savala after two women reported an attempted robbery at a Colesville bus stop.
Prince George's County Police say a DNA match and a composite sketch helped detectives connect the cases in Chillum to Chicas-Savala and he faces multiple counts of first- and second- degree rape, armed robbery and other charges.
He is being held in Montgomery County on an unrelated robbery charge, but police say he is connected to a sex assault there earlier this year.
