DNA Closes 9-Year-Old Cold Case; Suspect Convicted Of 2004 Rape
BEL AIR, Md. (WJZ) -- A 28-year-old Harford County man was convicted of two counts of first-degree rape and first-degree burglary for the rape and sexual assault of an Edgewood woman in 2004.
Sheriff's detectives arrested Deandre Wilson, 28, in late September 2012 because of DNA evidence.
At the time of his arrest, Wilson was in a New York jail serving time for conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
Deputies say in July 2004 a 33-year-old woman reported to deputies she was asleep in her living room when she was awakened by a man who was on top of her. Authorities say the man broke into the house, threatened her and sexually assaulted the victim. The man was never captured.
In 2012, detectives were notified that DNA recovered at the scene matched Wilson.
Wilson was convicted the week of Sept. 30, 2013 of two counts of first-degree rape and first-degree burglary. He is currently being held in the Harford County Detention Center awaiting his sentencing hearing, which is scheduled for Jan. 21, 2014.
