Adrian Peterson: Discipline Or Child Abuse?
Discipline or Child Abuse?
Jeremy Conn, Ken Weinman who is filling in for Scott, and guest Obafemi Ayanbadejo discuss Adrian Peterson being reinstated today after he was arrested for child abuse in Texas.
Weinman stated the Vikings got blown out at home against New England and asked Ayanbadejo's thoughts. "Between the Ray Rice situation, McDonald, Hardy and the list goes on, I don't know how many things can converge, that are literally based on abuse, it comes down to domestic video."
Ayanbadejo says he didn't see the pictures of Adrian Peterson's son's injuries, nor did he watch the Ray Rice video. "I don't need that to make decisions. The NFL can't do anything, but the Vikings can.
Jeremy thinks the Adrian Peterson situation is interesting because his grandparents were from the south, and they were spanked as kids. He wrote a blog on Father's Day about what his father went through as a child. "To me it was interesting how he broke the cycle. I wouldn't change anything about the way I was raised." He says he has seen it in his life. "The stories are vastly different compared to Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson. I'm not saying it's ok."
Femi says he feels Jeremy isn't taking this lightly and what he is trying to say is "Ray Rice knew he did wrong, Adrian Peterson didn't really think he did anything wrong." Ken added, "until somebody told him."
The main problem Anyanbadejo has is "when people try and take us back by saying this is how we used to be, things aren't like that now."
The guys discussed that there were things that used to be OK and not OK, but we are evolving and need to look to the now. They talk about the difference between spanking and going overboard and beating your kids. The bottom line is, it's unacceptable.
