Deck The Halls! Residents Getting Ready For The Holidays Baltimore Style
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Wet weather did not stop the Inner Harbor from ushering in some of its most popular holiday attractions.
Chrsitie Ileto has some of the seasonal spirit just waiting for visitors.
From the holiday window displays in Harbor East to the Power Plant light show at the Inner Harbor, residents are getting ready for the holidays -- Baltimore style.
A colorful display of synchronized lights, lasers and dancing snowflakes rock out to holiday music on the side of an iconic Inner Harbor landmark -- the Power Plant.
Dreary weather isn't stopping 4-year-old Collin from taking in the holiday magic.
"I saw my favorite kind of animal, that's a turtle," he said.
The five-minute choreographed show is quickly becoming a holiday tradition for Baltimore families.
"We've seen it for several years and we always look forward to it," Collin's dad, Albert Palewicz said.
"It gets bigger and bigger each year," said Beth Lavernick, Waterfront Partnership.
Event organizers say the show is part of "It's a Waterfront Life" -- an annual campaign that promotes downtown.
"When there's great attractions like this, you'll build it into an evening," Lavernick said. "We have dollar days, we have Santa's house, we have Santa's arrival, the light show. So there's a ton of different things happening every weekend."
While event organizers say nearly 5,000 people come to see the light show during its three week stretch every holiday, for area businesses, that extra foot traffic is a big boost to their bottom line.
"It definitely brings a lot of people downtown that wouldn't normally come down and it almost doubles and triples the foot traffic that's coming in the door this time of year," said Phillips seafood manager Marci Rubin.
Strollers lured to Harbor East take in the holiday window displays, while musicians serenade guests at the aquarium's holiday party.
But the sights and sounds of the Power Plant light show remain the big holiday attraction.
Special holiday events will be happening throughout the month of December downtown.
Event organizers say the "It' a Waterfront Life" campaign draws about 10,000 people downtown every year.
