Death Of Md. Prison Inmate Ruled Homicide
CRESAPTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland medical examiner's office has ruled the death of a state prison inmate at the Western Correctional Institution near Cumberland a homicide.
The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services announced the finding Thursday.
The agency says the 41-year-old inmate died Wednesday from blunt force trauma and asphyxia.
The department hasn't released his name because it hasn't yet located his next of kin.
A staff member found the inmate unresponsive Wednesday morning in the cell he shared with another prisoner at the maximum-security institution.
He was serving 11 years for rape and sexual assault convictions in Anne Arundel County.
