Teen Pleads Guilty In Attack On Elderly Woman
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A District of Columbia teenager has pleaded guilty to attacking an elderly woman inside her home during a burglary.
Tyran Mcelrath pleaded guilty in D.C. Superior Court on Monday to burglary and aggravated assault. He's scheduled for sentencing on May 7.
Authorities say the attack and burglary occurred on Nov. 7, when Mcelrath broke into the northwest Washington home of an 81-year-old woman.
Prosecutors say the 18-year-old man took tools from the woman's home and grabbed change from her purse before carrying a computer outside and hiding it in the bushes.
Mcelrath admitted punching the woman repeatedly in the face after she asked him to leave. Police say the woman suffered multiple bruises and broken teeth.
Police used GPS records to trace Mcelrath to the scene.
