D.C. Spared Icy Conditions, But Many Without Power

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A rush of warm air has cut down on the threat of ice in the Washington region, but many are without power and federal workers have been given the option to telework.

Pepco, which serves Washington and two counties in Maryland, was reporting about 200 outages on its website at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Most of the outages were in Montgomery County. Dominion Power was reporting about 2,535 customers without power in northern Virginia.

Meanwhile, the District Department of Transportation says southbound I-295 underpass is closed at Malcolm X Avenue due to high standing water. Drivers are urged to avoid the area.

According to the National Weather Service, rain showers are likely in the morning but it is expected to warm up in the afternoon with highs soaring into the mid-50s.
