DC Council To Clarify Sanders' Place On Primary Ballot

WASHINGTON (AP) — District of Columbia lawmakers will take up legislation intended to ensure that BernieSanders will be on the ballot for the city's Democratic primary.

Sanders' campaign paid a fee to the city's Democratic Party to get on the ballot, but the party didn't submit paperwork to the D.C. Board of Elections until the next day. That led a local activist to file a challenge arguing that Sanders had missed the filing deadline.

D.C. Democratic Party chairwoman Anita Bonds says the party accepts filing fees after the elections board is closed for the day and has historically handed in paperwork the next day. The Council will consider a bill on Tuesday to clarify that the party has a 24-hour grace period.

The District's primary is on June 14.
