D.C. Archdiocese Restates Opposition To Gay Marriage
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Archdiocese of Washington opposes redefinition of marriage, saying other unions exist, but they are not marriage.
In a statement released Wednesday night, after President Barack Obama said he supported gay marriage, the archdiocese said the complementarity of man and woman is key to the meaning of marriage.
The archdiocese also said it supports efforts by those who wish to uphold the traditional meaning of marriage.
The Archdiocese of Washington includes more than 600,000 Catholics in Washington and five Maryland counties.
