Man Seriously Hurt In Lutherville Light Rail Shooting
LUTHERVILLE, Md. (WJZ) -- The investigation continues after a man is shot just steps from the Lutherville light rail station.
Meghan McCorkell was first on the scene and spoke to witnesses.
The victim has been identified as Harold Blandon Jr. The 35-year-old was rushed to Shock Trauma Friday night with serious injuries after investigators say he was shot on the light rail platform.
With assault weapons and body armor, police officers with K-9s continue their search for multiple suspects in the area surrounding the Lutherville light rail station.
Investigators say Blandon was shot on the platform, ran, then collapsed across the street.
"I was like, 'Oh Lord, what is going on?' It's just crazy, I've never seen anything like this before," said commuter Caprice Coleman.
WJZ cameras were there when a man--who appeared to be a witness--walked detectives through the events of the shooting. Vernon Fonseca had just gotten off the train right before the shots were fired.
"I'm just saying, good grief. We just got off of the train. Come on, how lucky can you get? But I don't think it's luck. I'm just blessed that it wasn't me," he said.
The police investigation also caused big headaches for commuters. The light rail station was shut down for about three hours.
"I don't know what we have to do as far as getting home. It's my only transportation home," commuter Jazmine Smith said.
Maryland Transit Authority set up a bus bridge for passengers.
"Obviously, with this occurring in the middle of the rush hour on an afternoon when he had snow, traffic kind of snarled, it was a little tough getting things in place. But we moved as quickly as we could to try and accommodate passengers," said Terry Owens, MTA.
This, as police search for clues that could lead to whomever pulled the trigger.
The MTA does have surveillance cameras on some light rail platforms, which could wind up being part of the investigation.
The Lutherville light rail station reopened around 7:30 p.m. Friday.
It's not clear yet if Blandon was targeted.
