D.C. Names New Director Of Public School Athletics
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Public schools in Washington have a new director of athletics, the first woman to head the department.
Stephanie Evans, a former head women's basketball coach at Kentucky State University and Virginia State University, was named head of the department Tuesday.
Most recently, Evans was the head of player development of women's basketball program at The Academy of the Holy Cross, a high school in Kensington, Md. She will now oversee the athletic programs at the city's more than 100 public schools.
Evans holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in counseling psychology from Bowie State University in Maryland, where she was a point guard for the basketball team.
Evans, 39, replaces Marcus Ellis, who resigned in July 2011.
