D.C. Drug Dealer Who Escaped Md. Jail Gets 15 Years
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Washington drug dealer who escaped from a western Maryland jail in 2011 is going to prison.
Documents filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Washington show that 32-year-old Deandre Kelly was sentenced Nov. 14 to 15 years in the federal Bureau of Prisons.
Kelly pleaded guilty in 2009 to conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute PCP and cocaine. He agreed to cooperate with prosecutors but failed to appear for subsequent hearings.
In January 2011, Kelly was arrested during a traffic stop in Garrett County and charged with drug, weapon and traffic offenses. He escaped from the county jail a day later, assaulting two correctional officers while brandishing a handgun.
Kelly was captured in May 2011 in Bedford, Va.
