D.C. Circulator Buses Adding National Mall Route

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A bus service in Washington that aims to serve tourists and visitors as well as residents is adding a new route along the National Mall.

District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray and Councilmember Mary Cheh (CHAY) announced Friday that money to plan the new DC Circulator route will be part of Gray's budget proposal. Their goal is to have buses serving the National Mall by late 2015.

D.C. Circulator buses are different from the city's transit buses. They were established through a public-private partnership, and many of the routes include destinations popular with tourists, including Union Station, Georgetown, the National Zoo and Nationals Park. Fares are $1, and the buses arrive every 10 minutes.

Cheh says the new route will provide "greater access to D.C.'s national treasures."
