'It Was Absolutely Shocking' | Cyclist Arthur Hertbert Carter Killed In Annapolis Crash
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) — Anne Arundel County Police identified the man killed when he was hit by a car while cycling in Annapolis over the weekend.
Arthur Hertbert Carter, Jr., 59, of Hanover, died from his injuries.
Investigators said he was with a group of seven cyclists riding their bikes near the intersection of East College Parkway and Bay Head Road Sunday afternoon when they were hit by an SUV.
The group was returning home from a visit to Sandy Point Park at the time of the crash.
The driver, later identified as Carl Behler, was not injured. He lives less than a mile from the scene.
Two other cyclists were also injured: Jeffrey Adler is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries and Kathleen Hayes is expected to recover.

Police said College Parkway, a local road that runs parallel to Route 50, is popular with cyclists.
"This is a local road that's traveled usually by local cyclists and residents," Sgt. Kam Cooke with the Anne Arundel County Police Department said Sunday.
Cycling advocate Jon Korin was one of the seven who were riding in the group. He said the SUV came out of nowhere.
"It was absolutely shocking beyond belief to have a car coming straight at us," he said.
Officers said as spring weather starts to set in, drivers need to be more vigilant.
"They used the roadway like they were supposed to. They followed all the rules, from what I understand, while they were out there," said Cpl. Dominic Scali.
Police don't believe speed or alcohol are factors in this crash but are investigating. No charges have been filed.
Maryland has a three-foot rule for drivers, meaning cars need to be at least three feet away from bicycles when passing them.
