Curbside Recycling Will Resume In Baltimore On Jan. 19
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Weekly curbside recycling will resume in the city next Tuesday, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said.
Curbside recycling was suspended on Aug. 31 when the city's Department of Public Works was struggling to keep up with the city's curbside trash pickup as the COVID-19 pandemic hit their department.
Since then, the city has been operating collection centers, which will remain open through Feb. 27, but the hours will change -- opening only two days per week: Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The city is partnering with job training programs to recruit more workers. The city said there are now 220 workers assigned to routes.
Scott said they will be extremely cautious and thoughtful to keep DPW employees and contractors safe so that they can continue to do their jobs. The city is making sure employees have enough PPE.
But city officials ask for patience as routes may take longer due to larger volumes of recycling. Residents can call 311 for updates on delayed routes/ neighborhoods.
