Couple Pleads Guilty To Fraudulently Getting $30M From U.S.
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Keymar couple prosecutors say used $30 million fraudulently obtained from the federal government to finance a lavish lifestyle has pleaded guilty in the case.
Forty-nine-year-old Shaun Tucker and his wife, 50-year-old Joanne Tucker, entered the pleas Monday in federal court in Baltimore.
The Tuckers were controlling officers and majority shareholders of Quantell, Inc. and Intaset Technologies Corp.
Prosecutors say the Tuckers lied about their companies' ability to quality for government contracts. Authorities say the Tuckers used the money from the government contracts for their own benefit, including building, buying and leasing a 5,000-square-foot home in Garrett County, Maryland; additions to property in Taneytown, Maryland, including a home, gym and bar; and a 45-foot sailboat.
Sentencing is set for Nov. 20.
