Couple Gets 45 Years In 2009 Wheaton Killing
ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- A Montgomery County judge has sentenced a husband and wife each to 45 years in prison in the 2009 ice pick killing of a man in Wheaton.
Judge Joseph Dugan sentenced Moises Rodriguez, 21, and Maria Blanco, 23, on Thursday. Neither is likely to serve the full sentence. Under Maryland rules, prison officials say if they behave and work behind bars they could be out after 32 or 33 years.
Samuel Chacon was killed Nov. 17, 2009, near Newton Street in Wheaton. He had been stabbed more than a dozen times in the chest and back with an ice pick, and his body was found in the road.
Authorities say Chacon had been Blanco's ex-boyfriend and they had child-custody issues over the toddler they had together. Police say Blanco and Rodriguez devised a plan to kill Chacon.
