Police: County Councilman Charged With DUI Failed Several Sobriety Tests
TOWSON, Md. (WJZ/AP) -- A Baltimore County councilman has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police say Councilman Todd Huff was pulled over around 2:45 a.m. Saturday in Towson for driving a county-owned Jeep Cherokee with his headlights off. He stopped in the parking lot of a tire and auto repair business he owns.
He was placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence and was taken to a police precinct, where he underwent a breath test.
Charging documents show Huff's blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.
Huff's blood-alcohol percentage was .20 percent. The legal threshold for drunken driving is .08 percent.
The documents show the Republican councilman asked the arresting officer, "Don't you know who I am? You stopped me on my own property."
The documents also show he asked repeatedly whether field sobriety tests were necessary and suggested that the officers drive him home and "be done with this."
Police say he failed several sobriety tests.
Huff is a Republican who was elected to the council in 2010.
Huff was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, failure of vehicle on highway to display lighted lamps (headlight violation) and negligent driving.
Huff has not responded to multiple messages seeking comment.
