Supporters out in full force Sunday for Councilman Nick Mosby's big announcement.

"I am truly thankful, and truly blessed, to be standing here today and in front of you announcing my candidacy for the mayor of the city of Baltimore," said Mosby.

To a cheering crowd and his wife, City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby by his side, Mosby calls on voters to help him rebuild and strengthen Baltimore.

"Collectively we can change every block, every corner, every neighborhood and I need your help starting today," said the councilman.

Mosby joins a growing list of mayoral candidates replacing Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, who is not seeking re-election.

Political analysts say it's too early to determine a clear front runner in the race.

"Once they get more specific about their plans you can then compare plans and then it will make for a more interesting discussion," said political analyst Dan Nataf. "In the aftermath of the riots I think people are looking for someone with demonstrative leadership skills who can grasp a situation, know what to do and be effective.

Sheila Dixon is also vying for the mayor position after being forced out of office in 2010.

"Right now we are at a crucial stage in the city and we need someone who can hit the ground running," said Sheila Dixon.

Maryland State Senator Catherine Pugh and Counilman Carl Stokes are among those competing for mayor.

Councilman Brandon Scott hints at a possible run on his website, saying he wants to help make Baltimore a better place and believes that's the reason he exists.

"In the coming weeks I look forward to hearing from you all as I share my plan for leadership that will invest in, inspire and innovate Baltimore," Scott says.

With close to a dozen Baltimoreans showing interest in the mayoral race only time will tell who is serious about the election.

They have until February 3 to file.
