Corned Beef Is King At Attman's Deli Super Bowl Sunday
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Football, friends and good food. It will all be a part of Super Bowl Sunday. And in Baltimore, one business will be enjoying its busiest day of the year.
Ron Matz has more from East Lombard Street, where corned beef is king.
On Sunday, all roads lead to Attman's.
"We know what people like to eat. Know how much to have. We've never run out of anything, and we're ready to go. Attman's does not disappoint, we only make people happy," said Marc Attman, owner of Attman's Delicatessen.
They're getting ready for their busiest day of the year.
"There's a lot of excitement here on Super Bowl Sunday. I describe it as controlled bedlam. People really get the true Attman's experience. Our customers see us at our best," said Attman.
And what they like is Attman's famous corned beef. Back in the day, a sandwich cost a quarter.
"On Sunday, it's a madhouse. Everybody wants corned beef. We sell pounds and pounds of it. Customers come in and say give me four or five corned beef sandwiches," said James Holloway, who's worked at Attman's for 34 years.
They'll sell 3,000 pounds of it for the big game.
"For years, we sold a couple thousand pounds on Super Bowl Sunday. But last year was our biggest year. We sold 3,000 pounds that day. We sold another 1,500 pounds at our new location in Potomac. The Cabin John Shopping Center," said Attman.
On Super Bowl Sunday, the doors will open at 8 a.m. For Attman's, it's a day like no other.
"People start on Saturday. It's very, very busy. The line goes all the way to the back," said Holloway.
The Lombard Trophy features corned beef, Swiss cheese and turkey--pigs in a blanket, too.
"The Lombard Trophy has corned beef, Swiss cheese and turkey. It feeds five or six people. It's $34.99, and this year we're throwing in 12 pigs in a blanket. That's our hot dogs in a knish roll," said Attman.
It's all from a legendary Baltimore deli about to celebrate it's 100th year in business.
"We're celebrating our 100th anniversary. When the Super Bowl was a baby, we had already been around for 50 years. We've been around since the first one and we have Super Bowl experience," said Attman.
Attman's will celebrate its 100th anniversary in June of this year.
