Copy Of Lincoln's Coffin On Display In Hagerstown
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A funeral home in Hagerstown is exhibiting a replica of Abraham Lincoln's coffin.
The 6-foot, 6-inch casket will be on display Friday through Thursday at Rest Haven Cemetery.
It is one of several replicas made in the early 1990s by the Batesville Casket Co. of Batesville, Ind., that are loaned to funeral homes and museums nationwide.
The company says one of the coffins is in the permanent collection at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Ill.
The coffin is made of solid walnut and completely covered in black broadcloth with a white satin interior. The outside is adorned with silver colored handles and silver tacks.
