Coppin State Beats Howard 63-56, Halts 7-Game Skid
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Patrick Cole scored eight of his 14 points in the final 3:07 as Coppin State defeated Howard 63-56 Saturday to end a seven-game losing streak.
Michael Murray, who scored 16 points for the Eagles (6-22, 3-10 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), got nine during a 17-6 run to start the second half that gave Coppin State a 48-33 lead.
Taariq Cephas, who finished with 14 points for Coppin State, along with Andre Armstrong, had seven points during the run.
The Bison (6-22, 3-11) cut Coppin State's lead to 56-53 with 2:55 left but got no closer as they lost their fourth straight.
Two consecutive jumpers by Cole made it 60-53 at the 1:05 mark.
Mike Phillips had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Howard, and Tre Lee and Anton Dickerson scored 11 each.
The Bison had a 49-38 rebounding advantage but were hurt by 10 second-half turnovers.
