Convicted Md. Police Killer Drops New Trial Quest

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A Smithsburg man convicted of killing two people, including a police officer, is withdrawing his petition for a new trial.

The (Hagerstown) Herald-Mail reported Wednesday that a Washington County circuit judge granted the motion by Douglas Pryor, 32, last week.

Pryor filed the petition for post-conviction relief in June, claiming his defense counsel was ineffective.

Pryor pleaded guilty in May 2009 to murdering his former girlfriend Alison Munson and Smithsburg police officer Christopher Nicholson. He is serving six consecutive life sentences for those slayings and for shooting at four other officers on the night on Dec. 19, 2007.
